Hold On Tight for The Edinburgh Alpine Coaster

As someone who holds the bags at any theme park - I was so apprehensive of this activity but I haven't just been once - but twice!

Tucked away at Midlothian Snowsports Centre in the Pentland Hills, this gravity-powered thrill ride is a total game-changer for local adventures. Whether you're an adrenaline junkie or just looking for something a little different to shake up your weekend plans, the alpine coaster is a must-try.

After getting securely strapped in, you’re pulled to the top of the hillside with stunning views of the surrounding landscape - then it’s time to take control. You decide how fast you go by adjusting the brakes as you twist and turn down the track. Want to take it slow and enjoy the views? Go for it. Ready to channel your inner daredevil? Let it fly. Don't worry about it turning into bumper cars as the sensors make sure there is ample distance between you all.

What makes it so special is that it’s fun for all ages, surprisingly smooth, and offers something completely different from the usual city centre options. Whether you’re going solo, with a partner, or bringing the whole family, it’s a great mix of scenic and scream-worthy.

The whole journey is about 3 minutes, but fear not, you have the option to book 1 or 3 rides per person.

Plus, once you've coasted your way down, you can pop into the on-site café or make the most of being in the Pentlands for a walk or a bite nearby.

Pro tip: Book ahead, especially on sunny weekends - it fills up fast! And bring a jacket; even on warm days, it gets breezy when you’re zipping through the hillside.
