Grannies on the Loose: The Linlithgow Trail

If you saw a group of slightly unhinged grannies roaming the streets of Linlithgow on a random Saturday in August 2025… no you didn’t.

That was just us on The Linlithgow Trail, fully committed to the theme and living our very best pensioner lives.

Cardigans on, rollers in, handbags stuffed with essentials (mainly Werther’s Originals), we took to the town for a day that was equal parts hilarious and surprisingly wholesome.

The crawl itself is a brilliant way to explore Linlithgow’s pubs, hopping from spot to spot with plenty of laughs along the way. And what makes it even better? Visit all the pubs on the trail and you earn yourself a T-shirt to mark the occasion, a badge of honour, really.

I love a pub crawl at the best of times, but dressing up as grannies? That took it to a whole new level. We were stopped constantly by locals wanting photos, high-fives, and even entertained traffic while it sat at a standstill... iconic behaviour if you ask me.

Each pub brought its own vibe, from cosy corners perfect for a “wee sherry” (or a vodka), to livelier spots where our inner party grannies really came out. Let’s just say… these grannies did not go home early.

What I loved most was how much fun everyone else had with it too. The atmosphere was buzzing, strangers became friends, and for one day, Linlithgow fully embraced its roaming gaggle of grannies.

Whether you’re planning a birthday, hen do, or just fancy doing something a bit ridiculous with your pals, a themed pub crawl like this is an absolute winner. Comfortable shoes recommended… and maybe a shawl.

Final verdict: 10/10 would granny crawl again.
